There are many backing track systems on the market and even some great websites that do it for you too.
I’ve been using band in a box from PG music for close to 2 years now and it’s changed the way I play. It’s changed the way I teach, and it’s changed the flow of my lessons. You simply put in a chord progression and practice your scales over it. The mute tracks function on it allows you to practice your chords as well. This works great for guitar as well as piano.
I also use it for songwriting sketches if I’m working on a song idea I can type the chord progression in, and play or sing a melody over it. Right out of the box it comes with the quite a few styles ranging from Reggae to Hard Rock.
With regard to lessons, you can streamline your lesson flow and create a process of practice so you and your student can move through warm-ups in a live band feel scenario. It’s a great prep for reading too because you can slow the tempo down dramatically so you can keep up while reading some music. Also if you’re a performer and you wanted backing tracks for your karaoke, guitar work, or piano it works great. I love it and I hope this helps.
