The Pick That Finally Stuck: Jim Dunlop Maxi Grip
I’ve gone through a ton of picks over the years, and somehow I always end up right back at the Jim Dunlop Maxi Grips. The texture on these things is amazing; it’s like a soft velcro that keeps the pick locked in without feeling sticky or rough.

I’d played the regular Dunlops forever, but once they added the Maxi Grip, that was it. Total game changer. They come in different thicknesses (measured in millimeters), and my favorite is the one-millimeter. It’s got that sweet balance of stiffness and feel that just works for me, enough give for rhythm, enough bite for leads.
You can get them in packs of 24 and up, and honestly, they’re worth every penny. Try a few gauges and see which one fits your hand best.
If you want to check them out, [here’s the exact set I use]. It’s an affiliate link, which just means if you grab a pack through it, it helps support more lessons and gear breakdowns here on the site.
