Why I Stick With Ernie Ball 9s

I’ve tried a bunch of string brands over the years, but I keep coming back to Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9s. They just feel right. The tone’s bright, the tension’s smooth, and they settle in fast.

That’s the big thing for me—the stretch time. These only take about five to ten minutes to get broken in, instead of the twenty or thirty I used to spend with other brands. Once they’re set, they stay in tune and feel super consistent across all six strings.

I use them on most of my electrics, especially when I want that balance of easy bending and solid tone. They’re great for leads, and they hold up even under heavy playing.

If you want to try a 3 pack, here’s the exact pack I use. It’s an affiliate link, which means if you grab a set through it, it helps me keep sharing lessons and gear tips here.

I have a Takamine steel string acoustic that I love to play and for that I use DR Acoustic custom lights. Here they are

Here’s some more gear that I use and recommend

Play on!
